Powers Pleasant has been producing hip hop beats as part of the Pro Era collective since its founding in 2011 and has since produced a number of beats for a variety of fellow Pro Era members and Beast Coast Crew such as Joey Bada$$, CJ fly and The Underachievers. Now releasing this new hip hop single he brings in help in the form of fellow Pro Era member Joey Bada$$ and A$AP Mob’s own A$AP Ferg.
The production value on this single is strong and is in line with what is expected from the Pro Era collective and fits into Powers’ portfolio of beats well. It is catchy and well layered. It starts with a slow synth and piano loop and quickly transforms into a mix of bassy drops and vocals from Joey.
Joey does not perform to the highest of his capabilities on this track, it is fairly basic and bare bones. He talks about all the stuff we are used to hearing in singles like this. Flexing, cars, being superior in the game and a dislike for law enforcement. Joey not attempting to push himself on this track still doesn’t take away from how much it is enjoyable to listen to. Its punchy and flows very well.
Ferg is a very hard person to judge, his name being on a track does not tell you anything about it. He often switches between gangster rap to trap beats and is a versatile artist. Here he has slow vocals that aren’t greatly impressive but manage to fit the beat well and end up sounding both weak but a necessary addition.
Overall this song is a banger that I will be listening to for a while but I have grown to expect a lot more from The Beast Coast Movement, and that leaves me both a little disappointed and also keen for more from all three of these artists. I recommend this single though don’t put your hopes up too high.
